ISPIM hosted two “Coffee for Thoughts” sessions as part of the SF4S project, launching a vibrant dialogue on futures, sustainability, artificial intelligence, and social innovation. These short, thought-provoking sessions are designed to bring together changemakers, researchers, and practitioners to exchange ideas and spark fresh thinking on emerging topics.
The first session featured Henning Breurer (Media University), who addressed the pressing challenge of aligning AI business models with human values and sustainable development. His presentation, “Aligning AI Business Models for Sustainable Development,” delved into the broader AI alignment problem, already central to governance debates at organizations like OpenAI. Breurer argued that in addition to technical safety measures, we must design business models that reflect European values and the goals of sustainable development.
The second session welcomed Katri-Liis Lepik (Tallinn University), who presented “Multi-disciplinary Innovation for Social Change for a Better, Collaborative Future.” Drawing on her leadership of the COST Action SHIINE, she emphasized the importance of multi-disciplinary and design-led approaches in addressing complex societal challenges. Her work unites higher education institutions and enterprises across Europe to promote more resilient, inclusive education systems and foster social entrepreneurship and public sector innovation.
These sessions marked the beginning of an ongoing dialogue continued at ISPIM Bergen and through future collaborations, including the development of a COST Action proposal.
