The Strategic Foresight for Sustainability (Sf4S) project developed a series of professional development courses aimed at equipping participants with strategic foresight tools and sustainability practices relevant to their respective industries. These courses were implemented in several rounds, allowing for refinement based on participant feedback.
Three partners led the training efforts: EDC, IZT, and GEA College. EDC ran two courses, one targeted at designers and another at mid- and senior-level management, using a five-step approach that included futurecasting, scenario building, visioning, and identifying design opportunities. IZT’s modular training was aimed at middle management and emphasized foresight methods alongside sustainability implementation strategies. GEA College developed courses for both students and professionals, with a focus on defining a sustainability business case and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.
The training programs were structured into thematic modules combining theory and practice. Each included interactive activities, collaborative discussions, and hands-on exercises to enhance engagement and real-world applicability.
Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Respondents appreciated the practical relevance of the content, the structure of the modules, and the learning experience. Some suggestions for improvement included refining the selection of foresight tools and providing clearer instructions for group exercises.
Overall, the Sf4S professional courses demonstrated success in promoting green skills and sustainability awareness. Participants valued the interactive, modular design and the integration of foresight into practical business contexts. Future iterations will continue to adapt based on feedback and evolving organizational needs to ensure relevance and impact.
